So, you guys.  I have a confession to make.  Me?  Huge Nerd.  Like capital N – Nerd.  Like God, I wish I had a super power, can we please watch the newest episode of Arrow – Nerd. Like Doctor Who, please land your TARDIS in my front yard and take me to watch the Earth die in a ball of flame – Nerd.

They say “[a] reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.” So why would you NOT want those experiences to be in fantastical worlds?  My favorite thing in the world is that feeling where you discover something unimaginable – be it via a book or tv or movie – that is so real, so incredible, to you that it’s nearly painful to know it will never be. (Ummm, hello.  I think the owl that was carrying my Hogwarts admission letter got lost. Please send another.)

I hit upon a new obsession when I was making these caramel fudge brownies.  I like to put a tv show on in the background when I’m baking and I needed a show that David wouldn’t mind me watching without him.  (Because everyone knows that valid grounds for divorce arise when you get ahead on Netflix without your spouse.  O.o)

Anywho, David had been watching The Flash without me, since he seemed like too goofy of a super hero for me.  The Flash–that is, not David.  David is totally my kinda super hero. But I decided to give The Flash a try, since I LOVE Arrow and I knew there was quite a bit of cross-over.  You GUYS.  I totally underestimated this show.  A+ from Kaela.

Now excuse me while I go binge watch and catch up to David while eating one too many caramel fudge brownies. Topped with extra drizzles of caramel and hot fudge.  Because somehow caramel fudge brownies are even better with extra caramel and hot fudge. And a scoop of ice cream.  Oooookaaaaayyy, wow.  Too much?  Too much.  Back to The Flash.

Ingredients

    Brownies:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 cups white granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 1 jar or recipe of caramel sauce (*see notes)
  • 1 jar or recipe of hot fudge
  • Hot Fudge:
  • 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 oz unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Make hot fudge. (If using a jar of hot fudge, then skip this step.) Combine milk and chocolate in a small saucepan and cook over low heat until chocolate is melted. Cook one additional minute to thicken slightly. Add vanilla and butter and stir until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Melt butter in a medium sized saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, remove pan from heat and place on a trivet.
  4. Stir cocoa into butter. Add sugar and mix.
  5. Add eggs one at a time mixing well after each.
  6. Stir in vanilla and flour. Stir in 3/4 cup chocolate chips.
  7. Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan with butter and pour half of brownie batter into pan.
  8. Drizzle 1/4 cup caramel sauce over the batter. Drizzle 1/4 cup hot fudge over the batter.
  9. Pour remaining brownie batter into pan and spread into an even layer. Top with remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  10. Allow brownies to cool completely in pan before cutting.

Notes

Caramel is such a pain that I frequently use store bought caramel. But I have also had great luck with this quick and easy caramel sauce by blahnik baker. I just leave out the salt.

I love how brownies lend themselves so beautifully to almost any sort of additions. Caramel and fudge AND brownies?? Amazing trio, most definitely made even better with ice cream! Thank you for a wonderful recipe!

*raises hand* Nerd right here - I mean, spending weekend playing magic cards or a 12 hour long strategy video game while stuffing my face with chips. Nerds UNITE! haha :D ...and seriously someone should have warned me that getting ahead on anything Netflix was grounds for divorce because I had to find out the hard way how undesirable that was haha! Damn girl that brownie! The cut ridges are so decadent and the caramel drizzle! AHHH but holy chocolate batman! I think (wait, I KNOW) I need this soon to satisfy my chocoholic cravings.
