When it rains, it pours. I have an opportunity at work that all attorneys of my year would be thrilled about. Instead, all I can think about is how I haven’t had a real weekend and a good night’s sleep in a month, how two vets and $600 of tests can’t tell me why the puppy is sick, and how there is no foreseeable break in the storm for the next few weeks. Instead of feeling calm and prepped for this opportunity, I feel like I’m treading water.
Then I heard that a couple I knew in high school just found out their little boy, Simon, has cancer. A couple that is already struggling with the medical treatment of their new baby daughter, who was diagnosed with a genetic disease. Talk about perspective. I can’t even imagine the fear and insurmountable stress they must be going through. While I worry about work.
It makes me hug David, hug the dog, and realize that even should I completely and utterly muck up this opportunity, I still have family and a job and travel and so much yet to learn in this little life. Like how to appreciate what I have.
Love. Family. Work. Food. Health.
I can afford the fruit to make this healthy strawberry banana smoothie bowl. I am well enough to stand up in the morning to load everything into the blender. I have a job to go to, when I take this smoothie on the go and a husband to kiss as I run out the door. So take care of yourself this week. Take care of your family. And for those of you dealing with something unimaginable, we will be thinking of you.
If you would like to read about Simon’s story or would like to make a donation to help with Simon’s medical bills, then first – you’re incredible. Second, please visit the family’s site.
This strawberry banana smoothie recipe is made without yogurt and works well as a base for a variety of flavors if you want to mix it up. A blackberry strawberry banana smoothie packs extra antioxidants. A pineapple strawberry banana smoothie delivers a tropical twist.
